2013 UCSC Legends Boys - Is looking for players who love soccer, are willing to work hard and want to compete at the highest level.
In the Fall and Spring of 22/23 the Legends competed in the Red Division (2nd highest of 5) of State Level, and are currently 10-1-1. They are searching for players that are ready to compete as they move to the White Division, highest state comp level, in the fall.
Coach, Flavio Carvalho, created Legends FC (through UCSC), in an effort to provide his players with the same experience and training they would receive as a premier team player for a big club, at rec league costs.
This team will compete in the traditional fall/spring state competition division, as well as a couple tournaments, one local in the summer, and one in St. George/Mesquite in the Winter. They will practice at an indoor facility twice a week during the winter as well as play indoor soccer.
The Legends will do a fundraiser each year and have two wonderful sponsors: First Colony Mortgage (Travis Van Noy) and Rise Exhibits. Between the fundraiser and the sponsors, all uniform costs (which are awesome, see below), and tournament fees were covered.
Coaches:
Head Coach: Flavio Carvalho is a coach whose love for soccer radiates unto his players. He has coached comp soccer for about 10 years. Flavio has been asked to coach High School and for other local clubs, but just wants to continue coaching his boys through UCSC. Being from Argentina, he loves the "tiki taka" style of playing, and therefore focuses on developing technical ability, excellent footwork and understanding of positioning and movement on/off the ball.
Assistant Coach (Speed and Agility Trainer): Cody Fonnesbeck, just google this guy. State champ in the 100m and 200m, still holds the state record in the 40-yard dash with a 4.21. Cody's knowledge of soccer is growing, but Cody mainly focuses on speed and agility training. Most of the Legends practices, specially in the offseason, begin with Cody training the boys on developing explosive speed and quick and agile feet.
Assistant Coach: JR Huerta. JR grew up in Southern California where, as a youth, played soccer at a very high level. JR has a lot soccer knowledge and is great at making sure the boys are having fun and stay focused during practice. Having another coach, also allows the Legends to split practices up and work individually with players as needed.
They currently have their Tryouts scheduled for May 24th, 6:00 PM at Hindley Park in AF. However, even better than coming to the official tryout would be to call Flavio and have your player join them for a practice in the spring. That way, it gives the parents and player a better feel for the team. If you have a player who is interested, to join a practice or come to the tryouts, please call or text Flavio at 801-735-5764.
