UYSA Tryout, Registration, and Offer Rules
Important dates and requirements for competitive soccer tryouts and player offers.
1. Tryout & Registration Windows
UYSA splits Northern/Central Utah Regions 1–5 into two main competitive age brackets.
Younger Age Group: X-League U9–U12
- Tryouts Allowed To Begin: The 3rd Monday in May — May 18.
- Official Registration Opens: May 21 at 12:01 AM.
- The Rule: A club cannot force a player to officially accept an offer or register until this registration window opens.
Older Age Group: Premier, SLC, or IRL U13–U19
- Tryouts Allowed To Begin: The Tuesday right after Memorial Day — May 26.
- Official Registration Opens: May 29 at 12:01 AM.
2. The Pre-Tryout Timeline
To keep the process fair, UYSA enforces a strict timeline leading up to the tryout dates regarding who coaches can talk to and when.
- Before the 2nd Saturday in May: Coaches and club staff cannot initiate contact or communicate with any player outside of their own current club about the upcoming seasonal year.
- After the 2nd Weekend in May: Clubs may contact and extend early offers to players who are currently rostered within their own club.
- Outside Players: Coaches cannot make official offers to outside players until the official tryout window for that player’s age group opens.
3. Offer Letters: How and When They Work
When a coach or club extends an offer to a player, it must follow UYSA offer requirements.
How Offers Must Be Given
All offers must be in writing. This includes email or text messages. Verbal promises do not count as official UYSA offers.

To be valid, the written offer must include:
- The date the offer is being made.
- The specific team details, including team name, age group, anticipated coach, and anticipated competition level. Level is optional for U9–U12 X-League.
- All anticipated costs, including club fees, uniform costs, league fees, tournament fees, and expected travel expenses.
- The timeline the player has to respond and register.
When Can a Player Accept? The 48-Hour Rule
- For Outside Players: An offer can only be made once the age group’s tryout window officially opens.
- The 48-Hour Protection: Once an offer is extended, the team must give the player at least 48 hours to respond.
- The Registration Guardrail: The 48-hour deadline cannot require a player to commit before official UYSA registration opens for that age group.
For example, a U9 player cannot be forced to officially commit before May 21, and a U14 player cannot be forced to commit before May 29.
